Congratulations to our August Member of the Month, Sean Melville! Sean has been with us for just under a year and he's been a wonderful addition to our community. Sean brings a great sense of humor and fun to every workout (and he has a super cool accent!). He has a background in several unique Irish sports and brings his athleticism and coachability to class every day. We love having him as part of Commonwealth.
Do you have any nicknames?
Most of my friends call me Melville, and a few from school that are a little less savory!
Where are you from?
Galway, in the West of Ireland (the pale freckly skin and accent are probably giveaways :)
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Almost a year.
What brought you to CWCF?
I moved here from San Francisco last July, had considered doing CF for a while, and was finding it difficult to get motivation to exercise in the humidity. It looked like a very social group, so gave it a shot!
What classes do you usually attend?
6:30PM, used to do 6:30AM but have been lazy lately!
What do you love about CWCF?
I definitely prefer group-based exercise, everyone is very welcoming and friendly, there's a very good social aspect, the coaches are excellent and it’s good to know you aren’t breaking your back doing exercises the wrong way.
What do you do outside of CrossFit? (work? school? etc?)
I work in a biotech startup (https://www.srnalytics.com/), moved here from San Francisco with my job. I love trying out new places to eat, going to concerts, getting outside and going on hikes
What is something about you we might not know?

What is your favorite CrossFit movement?
Deadlift, hopefully in a few months that answer will be Olympic lifting.
What is your greatest achievement in the gym so far?
Gradually improving mobility, and getting muscle ups (on the rare occasions I get one!)
What is one short-term goal, one long-term goal, and what have you been doing to work on them?
I want to keep improving my old man level mobility and finally get a grip on Olympic lifts. I plan on putting some time into Olympic lifts in the Winter
What motivates or inspires you?
Watching other people progress so much in a short period of time, especially at things they would have considered unattainable.
What is your best tip for new members?
Just keep showing up, ask questions and spend some time outside of class on things you want to improve!
